Alejandro da Rocha is a Galician-Portugese producer, composer, sound artist and DJ based in Barcelona.
His academic background is in Fine Arts which he studied in Galicia, Portugal and France which led him to initially approach music from an art-installation perspective in parallel to his first experiences as a DJ. From this point, he began to develop his own sound, focusing his career on production and musical composition as well as his individual project, DA ROCHA UM, and his collaborations with performing artists and video projects.
He has worked as a composer and sound designer for dance and theatre companies such as Kor’sia, Richard Mascherin and laSADCUM amongst others, whose works have been performed in spaces such as Teatros del Canal (Madrid), Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Conde Duque (Madrid), CCCB (Barcelona) and outside of Spain in France, Italy, Bulgaria and Germany.
The audiovisual pieces and video installations which he has collaborated on with artists such as Ana Esteve Reig, Acacia Ojea and Fede Coll have been exhibited in Buenos Aires, Madrid and Granada.
DA ROCHA UM is Alejandro da Rocha’s solo project, where he develops his ethereal and industrial sound range through the experimental ambient genre. It contrasts the epic with the nostalgic, its sound is somewhere between noise, religious music, traditional music and bass music.
His live performances are defined by being continuous immersive experiences where ambiguous and inconclusive narratives are developed which require the spectator to be completed. They are sound concepts that touch on a cinematic experience and a meditative journey at the same time.
He has performed in festivals and spaces such as Electrónica en Abril (Madrid), Razzmatazz (Barcelona), Curtocircuito (Santiago de Compostela) and CCCB (Barcelona).
His mixes and works have been played on radio stations such as HKCR, Ma3azef, NOODS, among others.
